Careers in Oncology Pharmacy
Developing a career
in oncology is no different from any other specialty: all practitioners should
ensure that they have a thorough understanding of the basic principles and
practice of pharmacy before looking to develop their practice in a specialised
area.
The following
competency frameworks can be used to identify gaps in your knowledge and skills
and help you plan your personal development needs. Remember most pharmacy skills
are transferable and can be mapped against a general competency framework.
The differing
levels within the frameworks can be used to show how you can develop yourself
into a more confident and experienced practitioner

Whist BOPA are
working on a formal accreditation scheme there is as yet no UK recognised
pathway to becoming an ‘Oncology Pharmacist’. The American Board of
Pharmaceutical Specialities offers certification in oncology pharmacy enabling
pharmacists to validate their skills and knowledge in this area
